Mobility Impairments

A range of both visible and hidden mobility problems exist, read below for information on how to make labs more accessible to everyone

Space

  • Ensure step free access routes to and within the lab space

  • Seek to minimize existing step free routes if convoluted

  • Ensure clear and uncluttered routes throughout the lab free of trailing leads or other obstacles

  • Place convex mirrors in ceiling corners to increase visibility around the lab

  • All instrument and electrical switches should be within easy reach

  • Remove cupboards and obstructions under desks and sinks to allow space for wheelchair users

  • Do not store chemicals high up or far back

Tools
