Neurodivergent

1 in 7 people are considered neurodivergent which includes conditions such as autism, dyslexia and ADHD. Find out below how to make the lab space more inclusive of them

Space

  • Keep bright and colourful decorations to a minimum

  • Zone spaces to provide a secluded but safe environment to work in

  • Avoid excessive noise especially lower pitch or rumbling sounds 

  • Avoid bright or flickering lights such a fluorescent tubes

Tools

  • Consider noise cancelling or reducing headphones if safe

  • Provide alternative labels for samples such as coloured stickers

  • Fidgets are small kinaesthetic toys which autists and those with ADHD may find useful
